Krotz Springs - Funeral services for Mrs. Troy Hanchett Slocum will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021, in the Cane Brake Baptist Church in Lottie, La. Father Michael DeBlanc and Reverend Merrick Henry will conduct the services. Burial and graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery in Krotz Springs, La.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Troy Hanchett Slocum, age 77, on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Opelousas General Health System.
Troy worked as a secretary for the Cane Brake Baptist Church for several years. She retired as supervisor of the Head Start in Krotz Springs after 32 years of service and worked 15 years for a local home health company as a CNA. Troy loved quilting, crafting and working in her yard. She also enjoyed visiting with her family, attending senior parties and playing makeup with her great-granddaughter, Amelia Rose. Troy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of eight years, Wayne Slocum of Krotz Springs; her daughters, Rose Hanchett and Annie Moran (Jay) of Krotz Springs, La.; her sisters, Ruby Hutchins of Lottie, La., Corrine Floyd (Greg) of Parks, La., Audrey Doucet (Kenny) of Krotz Springs, La., Cheryl Duplechain (Ray) of Jeanerette, La., Kathy Martinez (Larry) of Krotz Springs, La. and June Pace of Lottie, La. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Natasha Schexnayder, Chris Schexnayder (Charlotte), Shawn Moran (BJ), Heather Johnson (Blake), Tabitha Bell (Jodi), Crystal Stelly, Megan Barnes (Justin) and sixteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents, Frank Louis Stermer, Sr. and Rosalee Corley Stermer; her children, Fredrick "Buddy" Hanchett, II and Brenda Gail Delanoix; her first husband, Fred Hanchett, Sr.; her brothers, Frank Louis "Bo" Stermer, Jr., Paul Wilson Stermer and Mickey Ray Stermer and her sisters, Betty Stermer Hawkins and Marie "Sister" Cagle.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, from 12:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Krotz Springs, La. The funeral home will reopen on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. with a rosary being prayed at 11:00 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Fenix Duncan, Quade Hatten, Shawn Moran, Jr., Logan Moran, Jason Halphen and Harley Duplechain. Honorary pallbearer will be Gunnar Johnson.
