Mrs. Mary Bailey

Washington - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, La. Father Jared Suire will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.

Mrs. Mary Catherine Bailey, age 98 and a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017.

Mrs. Bailey was a Proof Reader for The Daily World Newspaper for over 14 years. She was also a member of the Village Gardeners of Opelousas. Mrs. Bailey was an avid floral gardener. She was a wonderful homemaker, seamstress and doll maker. Mrs. Bailey will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Palmyre Bailey Dupre' of Opelousas and Valerie Bailey Chachere and husband, L.V. "Rip" of Washington; brother, Anthony Savant Pierrel of Spring, TX; grandchildren, Emile Dupre' and wife, Ellen of Orange, TX, Angelle Lord and husband, Dr. Greg Lord of Leesville, Julie Buckner and husband, Harry of Plaquemine, Marcel Dupre' and wife, Isabel of Baton Rouge, Leslie Hubbard and husband, Kyle of Palmetto, Greg Chachere and wife, Tracey of Prairieville and Charlotte Brown and husband, Lee of Cheneyville; 21 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Felix Bailey; and parents, Anthony Sabastien Pierrel and Thelma Leigh Savant Pierrel.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. by Father Jared Suire.

Pallbearers will be Derek Dupre', Jesse Dupre', Ben Buckner, Austin Brown, Gregory Daniel Lord and Zack Chachere.
