Mrs. Jerald Duplechain

Funeral services for Mrs. Jerald Corrine Duplechain will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Melville.  Interment will follow in the St. John Catholic Church Cemetery in Melville.

Visiting will be held in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Melville on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 1:30 p.m.

Mrs. Duplechain, age 81, a resident of Melville, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2021, with her family by her side.

She was born on May 13, 1939 in Lafayette, La., the daughter of the late Cleveland and Mary Elizabeth Fuqua.

Jerald rejoins her loved ones; her husband of 65 years, Cyprien Joseph Duplechain "Neg"; one sister, Myrtle Firmin; three brothers-in-law, Neal Firmin, Phillip Duplechain and Ron Hall.

She worked alongside her husband for many years to insure her family had all they needed.  She was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She boasted the green thumb of the family always tending to her garden and plants, all that she planted grew to be beautiful and healthy.

Jerald is survived by one daughter and son-in-law,  Violet Duplechain Whiteside (Clarence) of Gonazles; one son, Ricky Duplechain of Melville; one granddaughter and her husband, Memory Whiteside Salter (Josh); two great-grandchildren, Emerson and Beckham Salter; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Maxine Firmin, Bernice Duplechain, Peggy Viola (Charles), Shirley Triplett (Ed) and Cynthia Sockwell (Larry).

Pallbearers will be Clarence Whiteside, Josh Salter, Ray Casse, Nick Davenport, Chris Davenport, and Waylon Frame.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Nurses of LA Hospice and Palliative Care: Crystal , Barry, Kathy, and Bridget for their wonderful care and compassion; the staff of the Cancer Service of Baton Rouge; and friends of the family, Sherry Leblanc and Shirley Mortimore who assisted with the care of Mrs. Jerald.
