Mona Vizinat

A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Mona Ardoin Vizinat at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the St. Landry Catholic Church. The Reverend James Brady will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Commital will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be held in the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home from 5:30- 9:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. by Carmella Richard. Visiting will continue on Tuesday from 8:30 until service time.

Mona Raye Ardoin was born on April 9, 1930 in Eunice, LA where she grew up, graduated from Eunice High School and trained in office work. She performed clerical work for Judge Nilas Young in her early career.

On July 27, 1950, she married Jeffery J. Vizinat and together they raised a family and shared their lives together for just shy of 60 years.

She is survived by her three grown children: Steve Vizinat (Diane Pressler Vizinat), Paula Feucht (Patrick Feucht), and Lisa Ousse (Jim Ousse); 10 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jeffery Joseph Vizinat; parents, Edovic and Winifred Ardoin and her brother, Kenneth "Bud" Ardoin.

Together, Jeff and Mona spent approximately 27 years building up the local agency office for Farm Bureau Ins. Co. She worked side-by side with her husband in managing the work of the office, as well as, taking a leadership role in the ladies FB organization known as the Farmerettes. She was also certified as a Notary Public.

Her faith in God has always been a guiding force in her life of prayer and humble service, having been a volunteer "Pink Lady" at OGH and having instructed RCIA in her local church. She has been a source of encouragement and strength to many, and had a special ministry of support for those fighting cancer.

Grandma-Mona nurtured the relationships with her 15 grandchildren by attending their special events, having a listening ear, a handy hug, a word of encouragement, and always ready to lavish them with ice cream and "striped cookies."

Besides her commitment to and activities with family, she enjoyed jitterbug, swing and line dancing. She always had an eye out for the next Broadway musical performance, ready to travel to Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, or Orange, Texas to enjoy a show. Other outings she loved were shopping trips, doing lunch with a friend, or a motorcycle ride with her son, Steve. It should also be mentioned that Mona was an on-going member of the Ladies of the Round Table which meets regularly at the Louisiana Family Fitness Club. She took special pleasure in planting, cultivating, and tending her beautiful flower beds which contained azaleas, roses, lantana, and many others. Her sweet Schnauzer, Missy, was her constant companion and body guard who enjoyed being loved on and spoiled.

As much as Mona adored flowers and working in her yard, she knew that they fade way too fast! We ask that, in lieu of purchasing flowers, you make memorial contributions to one of the ministries of life that she has been dedicated to supporting for years:

The Louisiana Right to Life Organization has been tireless in its efforts to protect the sanctity of life. They work directly with women who are experiencing a crisis pregnancy both during and after the baby is born, whether she chooses to keep her baby or is considering offering him/her for adoption. They reach out to the general public and our youth in an effort to teach that life begins at conception and that choices must occur before that.

The Refinery Mission is located right here in Opelousas. It's a homeless shelter for men and oh, so much more! The mission houses 64 men in a brand new dorm with a dining hall, chapel, and garden on site. It offers a Christ-centered, structured, supportive environment for men to work on getting their spiritual lives, careers, and relationships mended. Support for this ministry comes from generous donations of individuals, local businesses, and area churches.
