A funeral service will be held for Mildred Darby Myers at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014, in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mildred, age 93, was one of 13 children. She was a native of New Iberia, LA and longtime resident of Opelousas, LA. She died on Friday, March 7, 2014 at her residence.
Mildred was a graduate of New Orleans Beauty School. She was the owner and operator of the popular Mildreds Beauty Shop on Lombard St. where she worked as a beautician for 35 years.
She was a devout Jehovahs Witness who enjoyed reading her bible and practicing her faith.
Mildred enjoyed meeting new people and visiting with friends and relatives. She never met a person she did not like. Mildred was endeared by all and will be remembered for her jovial personality and gentle spirit. Most of all she loved and cared for her children and grandchildren with selfsacrificing enjoyment.
Mildred is survived by her children: Myrna Myers French of Opelousas, William Billy Myers of Milton, Kenneth Levy Myers of Opelousas, Grace Myers Roger Sloane. of Opelousas, and JoAnn Myers Jeff Dungan of Denham Springs grandchildren: Samuel Alisha French of Lafayette, Rachel Myers Graham of Maurice, W. Brigham Myers of Milton, Chad Myers of Opelousas, Trent Myers of New Orleans, Annie Molly Dupre Paul Bracewell of Alabama, Jill Dupre Worthington of Denim Springs, Noah Myers Learned and Micah Myers Learned of New Orleans great grandchildren: Solomon and Hillary French Tripp and Landry Worthington Molly Francis and Camille Bracewell and, Sydni, Lila, and Evan Myers great great grandchildren: Vaida and Cori Myers Andre and Roxanna Estrada Kegan and Isabella Myers Lunden and Zoe Graham and Willow Cook and, sister Helen Darby Courrege of New Iberia.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Joseph Lawrence Myers, Sr. parents, St. Marc and Carrie Stephens Darby two sons, Joseph Lawrence Myers, Jr. and Dirk Stephens Joseph Myers grandchild, Eric Myers great grandchild, Josie Myers, and 11 siblings: Monroe Darby, Jessie Cole, Alice Bourgeois, Nellie Mouret, Clarence Darby, St. Marc Darby, Pete Darby, Anna Lee Bienemann, Francis Darby, Louise Morrison, and Jimmy Darby.
Mildreds grandsons will act as her pallbearers.
Visiting will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
