Mildred Cannatella

OpelousasA Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Mildred Vidrine Cannatella, age 84, on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Landry Catholic Church followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, La. The Reverend Monsignor Robert Romero will celebrate the mass.

Mildred Vidrine Cannatella died on Thursday, December 17, 2009, three days shy of her 85th birthday. She passed away at Opelousas General Hospital after a three week illness.

A native of Eunice, Louisiana, she made her home in Opelousas for the last 56 years where she and her husband raised five children. A loving and devoted wife, she worked side by side for over 25 years with her husband, Carlo Cannatella, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Cannatella was a long-time member of the St. Landry Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.

She is survived by one son, David Cannatella of Austin, Texas; and four daughters, Carla and Stephen Rives of Sugarland, Texas; Anne and Keith Harris of Clermont, Florida; Mary Dennis of Opelousas, Louisiana; and Bettina and Jay Stansbury of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; one sister, Patricia Manuel of Eunice; and ten grandchildren, Geoffrey Harris; Maria, Elizabeth and David Rives; Laura, Sarah, Francis and David Dennis; Christopher and Katie Stansbury.

Mrs. Cannatella was preceded in death by her parents, Milton Pierre Vidrine and Hilda Beaugh Vidrine and two brothers, Eric Vidrine and Rivers Vidrine.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Landry Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, December 20, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will reopen on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2009.
