Michael David

Michael David, age 73, passed away peacefully at his residence on March 6, 2024, surrounded by his family.  He was born in Arnaudville, Louisiana, on January 20th, 1951. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, La. Father Clint Trahan will Celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal and Burial will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.  

Pallbearers will be Daniel David, Zachary David, Andrew David, Aaron David, Christopher David and Jody Leger.  Honorary pallbearers will be Kayden David and Tucker David.

Visitation will be held in the Skip Montet Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  A Rosary will be prayed Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. by Deacon Ulysse Joubert.  The funeral home will re-open on Monday, March 11, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Michael was a dedicated firefighter, and Paramedic and had a 29-year career at the St. Landry Parish Fire District #1. He excelled in his role, achieving the rank of captain in 2010, a testament to his exceptional leadership skills and unwavering commitment to serving his community. Additionally, Michael served for over 20 years at the Louisiana Bureau of EMS and worked as a Paramedic for Acadian Ambulance Service, leaving a profound impact on all those he helped during times of need.  Described as a jack of all trades, Michael had a vibrant personality that touched the lives of those around him. He was inducted as a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus at the age of 19.  He was the youngest in the state of Louisiana at that time.  He found joy in simple pleasures like listening to music and cooking.  He was known for his shrimp etouffee, rice and gravy, stews, and burgers. Michael had a knack for bringing people together through his love for cooking.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Alyson David; his sons, Daniel David (Nicky), Zachary David (Jennifer), Andrew David and Aaron David (Jessica); his daughter, Ali David; his sisters, Melinda Leblanc and Johnnie "Boo" Soileau (Aubrey) and his grandchildren, Lane David, Kayden David, Maddie David and Tucker David.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Velma Lanclos; his father, John Mack David; his brother, Robert David; his brother-in-law, Barry Leblanc; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elaine Leger and Paul Leger; and his brother-in-law, Anthony Leger.

The family would like to thank Nicky David and his children for caring for Michael.  May he rest in peace knowing he made this world a better place through selfless acts of service and love.
