Opelousas - Funeral services for Merrell Sellers will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2021, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel in Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. Interment will be in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. Rev. Brian Johnston will officiate the services. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel in the Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.
Merrell, age 75, was a native of Saratoga, Texas, and a longtime resident of Church Point. He passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at his home. He was a licensed Tugboat Captain for over 30 years with limited education. He was always there for his children, grandchildren, and wife. He was a dedicated father and boat captain. He enjoyed being outdoors, spending time with animals, and sitting on his porch. He will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include sons, Forist Sellers of Tyler, Texas, Alfred Straton of Youngsville; Todd Sellers of Montana; William Sellers of Church Point; Merrell Sellers, Jr. of Colorado; and Troy Sellers of Montana; daughter, Wendy Sellers of Idaho; sister, April Tibbs of Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren: and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Ruth Palombo Sellers; his parents, Robert Sellers and Aline Taylor Sellers; brother, James Sellers; sister, Merlene Khon; grandchild, Michael Newel; and nephew, Gary Tibbs.
