Merlyn Louis Carrier known to many as "Muff" passed away on October 26, 2024, at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas, Louisiana. He was born on January 22, 1930, in Washington, Louisiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Merlyn Louis Carrier at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Father Neil Pettit will celebrate the Mass. The Rite of Committal will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA. Military honors will be rendered at the graveside by the U. S. Navy. A Rosary service will be recited at Bellevue Memorial Park following the graveside service.
His military service was a testament to his bravery and patriotism serving as a Petty Officer during the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 45 of Opelousas, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 08971 of Opelousas, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a very active participant in the Veteran ceremonies in Opelousas for many years. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #1048 of Opelousas.
He is survived by one son, David; two daughters: Cherise and Denise and their children; and two nieces: Christine Mueschke and Valerie Pyle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas Carrier and Wilmer “Pro” Rembert Carrier; two brothers: J. D. Carrier and Delma Carrier; and one sister, Helen C. Bordelon.
