Melba Joubert

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Melba Soileau Joubert, age 72, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. Rite of Committal will be held at the Bellevue Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will officiate the service.

Ms. Joubert, a resident of Opelousas, LA, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Opelousas General Health System.

Melba was employed with the St. Landry Parish School Board for over 30 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her son, Mike Manuel and wife, Tammy of Lawtell, LA; her daughter, Tina Vidrine of Grand Prairie, LA; her brothers, Earlis Soileau and wife, Cindy of Grand Prairie, LA; Larry Soileau (Paula) of Plaisance, LA and her sister, Verna Martin of Opelousas, LA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Katherine Amelia "Katie" Vidrine of New Orleans, LA; Rebecca Renee Vidrine and husband, Michael of Grand Prairie, LA; Hope Danielle Leger and husband, Ben of Carencro, LA; Heidi Michelle Olivier and husband, Byron of Broussard, LA, and Lane Michael Manuel of Lawtell, LA; three great-grandchildren, Adeline Elise Vidrine, Jacob Aaron Vidrine and Lillian Grace Leger. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Debra Reichstein (Barry) of Houston, TX, Brenda Olivier of Port Barre, LA, Daniel Keith Ardoin (Mary) of Dickinson, TX, Amanda L. Martin (Daniel Naquin), John Anthony "Tony" Martin (Lacey) all of Napoleonville, LA, Aimee Soileau of Grand Prairie, LA, Justin Lafleur of Ville Platte, LA and Miranda Soileau of Plaisance, LA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ozeme and Gladys Joubert Soileau; her son, Jesse N. Muse, Jr.; her sister, Elaine Ardoin and her great-grandson, James Abbott Vidrine.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. by Deacon Jerome Collins. The funeral home will reopen on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Ben Leger, Byron Olivier, Lane Manuel, Mike Manuel, Tony Martin and Michael Vidrine.
