Melville Funeral services for M.C. Doc Harvey, Sr., age 89, will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in the Melville Methodist Church, followed by interment in the St. Nathaniel Episcopal Cemetery in Melville. Reverend Kenneth Chapman and Reverend Paul McHenry will conduct the services.
Mr. Harvey, a resident of Bayou Current, La., passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010.
Doc was employed by the U.S. Corp of Engineers and retired 1981, a member of the Louisiana Cattlemans Association, Farm Bureau, the American Legion, and the NRA. He was a deacon and lifelong member of the Atchafalaya Presbyterian Church. He served his country during WWII and was a veteran of the Army Air Corp. He was a lifelong rancher, avid hunter and fisherman. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family. He lived his entire life where he was born. He loved the land and people of Bayou Current and Melville. He died peacefully and independent where he wanted to be.
He is survived by his sons, Morgan Clayton Harvey, Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Boerne, Texas his daughter, Becky Harvey Nicosia and husband, Donald, of Baton Rouge, La. his sisters, Lucille H. Neames of Shreveport, La. and Hazel Harvey Morris of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by one grandchild, Morgan Ann Harvey four stepgrandchildren, Nicholas Nicosia, Brett Flanders, Krystal Flanders, Heather Edney and two stepgreat grandchildren, Mason and Grace Edney.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda J. Harvey his parents, Maurice and Mattie Mae Keller Harvey his brother, Ray W. Harvey, Sr. and his sisters, Alma H. Smith and Lizzie Mae H. Hemann.
Pallbearers will be Chad White, Kelly Hernandez, Carlos Polotzola, Brad Joffrion, Jeffrey Joffrion, Shane Joffrion and Ronnie Devillier.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Melville on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 from 4:00 p .m. until 8:00 p.m. and will reopen on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
