Matthew Senette

Krotz Springs A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Matthew M. Senette at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014, in the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Krotz Springs. Reverend Chan Nguyen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will be held at the church cemetery.

Mr. Senette, age 98, a lifelong resident of Krotz Springs, LA died on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at Garden View Assisted Living in Lafayette, LA.

Matthew was born on July 9, 1916 in Centerville, LA. He joined the Army where he served as a Staff Sergeant in the 105th AAA, AW, BN until WWII ended in 1945. He returned from the war and made his new home in Krotz Springs, LA. He worked as a Superintendent and Engineer of a local construction company. He met his bride to be, Sylvia Meche, and married her in 1950. Together they have two children, Gwyn and Brent, six grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

He was very active in his community and was a man of principle, integrity, service and great faith. His civic involvement included coaching children, town councilman and Knights of Columbus. He retired when he was 75 years old, although he continued to be very active in the community and his church where he was a reader for masses until the age of 96. He moved to Garden View Assisted Living in June of 2013. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by a son, Brent Senette and wife, Lynn, of Anchorage, Alaska and a daughter, Gwyn Senette Smith and husband, Stephen, of Lafayette, LA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Allison and husband, Matt Bendis Jennifer Senette Lauren and husband, Fabio Giraldo Karen Senette Travis Smith and wife, Lea and Stephanie Woodruff and husband, Seth and four greatgrandchildren, Elle and Ava Smith and Noah and Luke Woodruff.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Francis Senette and Emma Douglas Senette and seven siblings, Willie Senette, Ira Senette, Cynthia Sis Barmar, Ruby Williams, Walt Senette, Douglas John Senette and Richard Senette.

Visitation will be held at the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Krotz Springs on Thursday, November 20, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will reopen on Friday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
