Mary Asta Williams born on January 29, 1932 passed away peacefully at her family’s farm on December 20, 2020. Mary was born in Port Barre where she would ultimately retire and live out her golden years with her lifelong love Earl “Sonny” Williams who predeceased his bride by less than a month. Mary was also predeceased by her parents Anthony “Tony” Asta and Lucille DePrimo Asta and siblings Vincent Asta, Rosalie Asta Benedetto, and Josie Asta Foto. Mary is survived by her beloved son, John G. Williams (Angela) and her grandson, John Luke Williams. Mary is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary’s career began with BellSouth, later evolved into a real estate agent where she worked in Metairie and concluded with her working for years at her sister’s nursery, Rose Garden Center in Gretna. Mary and Sonny retired to the farm and remained there for almost thirty years where Mary tended her flower and vegetable gardens, took care of her chickens, and kept watchful eye on the men while they worked and was quick to come lend them a hand or cook them one of her signature Italian dishes for lunch.
The family will receive visitors at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Saturday, December 26, 2020 from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. Mary was a devout Catholic and a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Washington, Louisiana where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Noon. The Reverend Matthew Higginbotham will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mary’s name to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 330 East Moundville St, Washington, LA 70589.
