Opelousas - A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Shaughnessy Straub will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018, in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. Reverend Msgr. Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas.
Mary, age 84, was a native of Chicago, Illinois, longtime resident of Denver, Colorado, before moving to Opelousas, LA. She passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Opelousas General Medical Center.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and word search puzzles. She also was a talented homemaker and did knitting and crocheting. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by five sons, Michael Straub and wife, Katherine of Murphy, North Carolina; Walter Straub of Opelousas; James Straub and wife, Debbie of Arlington, Texas; Matthew Straub of Opelousas; and Joseph Straub and wife, Jenn of Littleton, Colorado; four daughters, Barbara McCoin and husband, Joel of Eads, Colorado; Lynn McAdam and husband, John of Land O' Lakes, Florida; Catherine Driscoll and husband, Richard of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and Claudia Kelly and husband, Rick of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one brother, Robert Shaughnessy and wife, of Nashville, Tennessee; 9 grandchildren and1 great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Straub; her parents, James Shaughnessy and Mary Miller Shaughnessy; brother, James Shaughnessy; and sister, Barbara Ann Norris.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
