Marty Ortego, age 78, was one of the most loving mothers and grandmothers. She gave her whole heart fiercely, yet gently. She was soft-spoken and kind…and her generosity shone brightly, always seeking ways in which to bless others.
Marty graduated from USL with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught only for a short while before devoting her time to her family. Later in life, she was employed by the family company, Ortego Oil and Supply Company, until she retired.
Although she lived a quiet, simple life, she leaves behind a legacy of gentleness and grace, Godliness and goodwill. She fought demons in her life, but always had her loving children and family to support her and carry her through. Her strength through life will serve as a testament to all, of overcoming some of life’s greatest obstacles.
Marty had the sweetest and most genuine smile that radiated joy to all around her…and the most infectious laugh that we will never forget. She taught us how we could take a serious situation and bring humor into it to lighten some of life’s heavy burdens.
In her prime, she loved to dance and continued loving and listening to music throughout her last days. For Marty, music was soul-soothing and an outlet where she found peace within. She also found peace within our Lord, praying daily for herself and her family and friends. She kept God close to her heart.
Marty is survived by her son, Judd Granger, and his significant other, Carol Ryan, her daughters, Monique G. Campbell and her husband, Lance Campbell and Charisse Granger and her significant other, K. C. Williamson; her brothers, Michael Ortego and his wife, Myra Ortego, Brad Ortego and his wife, Sharon Ortego and Neil Ortego and his wife, Cathy Ortego and her sister, Diana Wallet and her husband, Michael Wallet. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Cate DeBoi, Peyton Campbell, Gabe Williamson, Janell Adkins-Mills and Michelle Adkins and one great-grandchild, Jackson Gooding.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elvin and Ena Ortego and her sister, Paula Ortego Bienvenu.
Marty will be remembered fondly for her unwavering dedication to her family and love for life. May she rest in peace knowing she was cherished by many.
