Darnell Martin, age 91, of Washington, LA, passed away on July 15th in Opelousas, LA. She was a resident of Prompt Succor Nursing home.
Visitation will be held at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA on Tuesday July 17, 2018 from 3pm to 9pm and again Wednesday morning from 8am to 9:30am. A Catholic rosary will be held at Lafond-Ardoin at 6:00pm on Tuesday, July 17th.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, LA on July 18th at 10:00am with Fr. Matthew Higginbotham officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill cemetery where she will be interred next to her husband of 55 years, Hyrum Lee "Booger" Martin.
Mary Darnell Doucet Martin was born on January 27, 1927 in Grand Prairie, LA to Iola Philomenia Phillips Doucet and Heard Leonard Doucet. She was preceded in death by her husband Hyrum Lee "Booger" Martin (1927-2001). Darnell and Hyrum Lee were married November 11, 1945. Darnell is also preceded in death by her brother Ludric J. Doucet and his wife Anna Belle Smith Doucet, sister Bernadine Doucet and son-in-law Donald Andrew Martin.
Darnell is survived by her brother Paul Elgean Doucet and wife Irma Jeanne Theriot; her son, Mitchel James Martin and wife Angela Austin Martin of Washington, LA.; her daughter, Lisa Marie Martin and fiancé Tobin Bortner of Bastrop, Tx; her daughter, Denise Ann Wilson and husband Gary Wilson of Washington, LA; her son , Dickie Andrew Martin and wife Mia Martin of Opelousas; ten grandchildren, Cheri Fairley and husband Martin, Nick Martin, Waylon Austin, Morgan Austin, Jessie Martin, Jeremy Wilson and wife Candice, Beau Wilson and fiancé Laura Manuel, Justin Carroll, Amy Meche and husband Colby and Lydia Martin; ten great grandchildren, Macy Martin, Kaitlyn Fairley, Jordyn Fairley, Ian Michiels, Bryce Wilson, Sydni Wilson, Olivia Wilson, Sophia Manuel, Cayden Meche and Bennett Meche.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Wilson, Beau Wilson, Nick Martin, Martin Fairley, Justin Carroll and Colby Meche.
Darnell was a devout Catholic; she was a member of the St. Mary's Altar Society in Washington and the Washington Garden Club. Darnell loved to travel, camp, and cook Sunday meals for her family. Her love for God, family, friends and life will remain in the memories of those she leaves behind.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the caretakers of Prompt Succor Nursing Home who befriended Darnell in the last years of her life.
