On March 13, 2024, the town of Krotz Springs lost a remarkable individual with the passing of Mary Lou Lacassin at the age of 85. She was a dedicated public servant who left an indelible mark on her community during her 41 years of service as the Town Clerk. Mary Lou was the first Town Clerk in Krotz Springs' history as a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and received the prestigious Master Municipal Clerk award.
Mary Lou’s commitment to her town extended beyond her professional duties. In 1978, she initiated the town's Monthly Senior Citizen party, demonstrating her compassion and dedication to serving those in need. Her contributions were honored by being elected to the Town Council three times, showcasing the trust and respect she garnered from the community.
Apart from her professional achievements, Mary Lou had a vibrant personality that touched the lives of many. She found joy in fishing, photography, and engaging in political discussions. However, her most fulfilling moments came from giving back to others, especially the elderly in her beloved community.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert H. Brooks, III; her son, Glenn Lacassin, Jr. and companion, Lynn Barron; her daughters, Bonnie Lacassin and fiancé, Ronnie, and Debbie Odette Lacassin; her stepsons, Robert Brooks, IV and Johnny Brooks; six grandchildren, Josh Evans, Brooke Ackerman, Chelsie Lacassin and companion, Jared Lafleur, Ridge Lacassin, Lennon Brooks and Jennifer Brooks; eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way; and the Town of Krotz Springs—a community she cherished like family and considered her 5th child.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her son, Grady Lacassin; her parents, Andrew and Odette Lanclos; her brothers, Howard and Bradley Lanclos, and her sister, Velma David.
Mary Lou’s legacy will live on through those she touched with her kindness and dedication.
