Opelousas Funeral services for Mary Dorothy Coon, the former Mary Dorothy Wisham, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home Chapel, followed by burial in the Bellevue Memorial Park cemetery. The Reverend Pete Smith will celebrate the Mass.

Mary Dorothy Coon, age 88, who was a native of Melville, LA and a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Opelousas General Health System.

Dorothy loved gardening and cooking for her family. She loved her children and grandchildren above all else and showed that love daily. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by sons, Clarence Wayne Coon and wife Josie of Pasadena, MD, Danny Lee Coon of Zachary, LA, and Sammy Lynn Coon and wife Darlene of Prairie Ronde, LA daughter, Carolyn Fontenot and husband Johnny of Opelousas, LA brother, Sam Tagliarino, Jr. of Houston, TX grandchildren, Corey Stears, Meghan FontenotEllis, Joshua Coon, Jessica Coon, Cliff Soileau, Danny Soileau, and Sadie Barnes and five great grandchildren.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Quinn Coon her mother, Ollie Tagliarino stepfather, Sam Tagliarino daughter, Myrt Coon Soileau her son, Larry Don Coon sisters, Lucille Stone and Marie Morgan and her brother, Johnny Tagliarino.

Pallbearers will be Corey Stears, Josh Coon, Cliff Soileau, Danny Soileau, Phillip Ellis, and Randy Paul Bordelon.

Visiting will be held in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. and will reopen on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. until service time.
