Marilynn Leeper

Marilynn Ann DeJean Leeper was born January 6, 1940 in Opelousas, LA and died on April 5, 2012 at the Thibodaux Regional Hospital during heart surgery, after a 5 year battle with breast cancer.

She was the beloved wife of the late James Malone Leeper for 43 years.

She is survived by her children, namely, William DeJean Leeper, James Malone Leeper, Jr. Tammy and Elizabeth Leeper Bussey, also her grandchildren Matthew Giroir, Robert Bussey, and Mindy Fauguy. Marilynn is also survived by her sister, Gail DeJean Lavis Mrs. Charles E. Lavis she will be sadly missed by Dr. and Mrs. Charles E. Lavis and their five children and eight grandchildren.

Marilynn was a graduate of the Academy of the Immaculate Conception High School in Opelousas, LA. She attended L.S.U in Baton Rouge, LA when she pledged Kappa Delta Sorority and later she transferred to L.S.U. New Orleans in 1961.
After college days, she was on the faculty of the Happy Times Nursery School on Carrollton Ave. for many years she and her family were active parishioners of Tulane Catholic center and church.

In Houma, she worked for the Houma Daily Courier for 10 years. She was a dedicated member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.

Marilynn was a caretaker. She was devoted to her husband and children and was a great mother.

Her interests included art, music, gardening, politics and an animal lover.
She had 2 pet dogs, namely, Lucky and Roxie. She became a serious painter of landscapes in 1991.

Marilynn was a happy and positive person with a sense of humor and a wonder outlook on life.

Services will be held at LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 with visitation of family and friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. until funeral service at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Austin Leger officiating. Burial will be at the Bellevue Memorial Park cemetery.

If desired, donations may be given to the Susan Koman Cancer Research or the American Heart Association in honor of Marilynn DeJean Leeper.
