Marie Soileau

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Marie Yvonne Hicks Soileau at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville, LA. Father Darren Eldridge will celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal will follow at St. Leo the Great Church Cemetery.

Marie Hicks Soileau, of Walker, LA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 80 years on August 9, 2021.  Born and raised in Lebeau, LA with ten brothers and sisters.  After graduating high school in Palmetto, Marie headed to the big city of Baton Rouge, LA where she retired after 44 years of service with AT&T.

Marie was wonderfully devoted to her children Ernie Soileau (Amanda Evans) of Walker, LA and Donna Mazzola (Joseph) of Robstown, TX.

She was a loving Grandmother to Brooks Soileau (Bridget) of Watson, Ashley Sharon of Freer, TX, Leighanne Avants (Roy) of Walker, LA, Nicholas Soileau of Hammond, LA and Brittani Soileau of Gonzales, LA. Her pride and joy were her Great-Grandchildren whom she adored more than anything- Kade Soileau, Jacob Palermo, Ethan Soileau, Kenleigh Soileau, Aubree Avants, Caden Avants, Cullen Soileau, Legend Richard, Jayden and Brian Weaver.

She leaves behind loving brothers and sisters  Charles Leon Hicks (Virginia), of Denham Springs, Milburn "Buddy" Lloyd Hicks (Betty), of Plaucheville and Felix Louis Hicks (Carol), of Big Cane; Betty H. Dupre of Kingston Springs, Tenn., Nora H. Wise (Winston), of Mora, Charlotte H. Taylor (Donald), of Prairieville, Beatrice H. Chatelain (Ivan), of Baton Rouge and sisters-in-law Norma Hicks of Big Cain, LA and Shirley Hicks of Walker, LA.

Marie was a loving Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. We will miss her every day.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Murrell & Beatrice Chelette Hicks Sr, brothers James “Jim” Murrell Hicks Jr, John Dewey Hicks and Donald Douglas Hicks, brother-in-law Harvey Dupre and grandson Matthew Christian Soileau.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, in the Skip Montet Chapel in Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home from 5:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  A rosary will be prayed Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will re-open at 8:00 a.m. until time of service on Thursday, August 12, 2021.

Pallbearers will be Brooks Soileau, Nicholas Soileau, Tommy Hicks, Brent Wise, Kevin Hicks and Chad Hicks.
