Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Marie Welene Pitre at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014, in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Reverend Greg Semien will celebrate the Mass. Rite of committal will be held at Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Prairie Ronde, LA.

Mrs. Pitre, age 61, a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at her residence.

Marie was employed by Winn Dixie for 25 years and also worked side by side with her husband as owners and operators of Acadian Sales and Service where she always greeted customers with smile. She was a devoted Catholic all of her life and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. She enjoyed her family, gardening, fishing and cookouts. She cherished her family the most, especially her one year old grandson. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Joseph H. Pitre, of Opelousas, LA her son, Michael Shawn Pitre of Sunset, LA her daughter, Delaina Pitre Sweat and husband, Chais, of New Orleans, LA and her brothers, Hebert Wedlock of Prairie Ronde, LA Woodrow Wedlock of False River, LA and her one year old grandson, Honore Lavonne Sweat.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wellam and Dorothy Joubert Wedlock.

Visitation will be held at the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, August 29, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will reopen on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at 8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
