Marcelite Prudhomme

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 16th at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas for Marcelite Smith Prudhomme, 92, who passed away peacefully at Evangeline Oaks Nursing Home in Carencro on Saturday, June 14th 2008.

Cherished as the familys Nnaine Zoot, she was a nursing home favorite where she had been nicknamed Tee Boo. Born in lAnse aux Pailles, between Ville Platte and Prairie Ronde, she was one of 16 children born to Celima and Ernest Smith, being one of only seven siblings who survived the hardships.

She was a plower, a tailor, a gumbo maker. She was a baker and a mother of a Super Bowl player. She was a mother of two and a step-mother of two. She was a grandmother of five, a great-grandmother of six, and great-great grandmother of nine. She was a cherished aunt, sister, friend and neighbor, a natural-born storyteller who was always ready with a laugh, a praline, or a cup of coffee.

She is survived by two stepdaughters, Lenius Rushing of Port Arthur and Nettie Stewart of Lafayette, two granddaughters, Arlene Jagneaux Bodoin and her husband Skip Bodoin of Carencro and Jeanne Prudhomme of Baton Rouge, and two grandsons, Ren Prudhomme and Troy Prudhomme of Baton Rouge and New Orleans respectively, and a brother in Houston Ed Lee Smith. She will be dearly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy Prudhomme, five brothers and sisters, a son, Remi Prudhomme, a daughter, Janelle Prudhomme Jagneaux, and a grandson Carl Jagneaux.

Pallbearers will be Skip Bodoin, Joshua Bodoin, Rene Prudhomme, Troy Prudhomme, Brent Page and Ricky Lavergne

Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Sunday, June 15th at the funeral home from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., with a rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m.
