Mabel Marie Sonnier Savoie, age 73, of Porter, Texas was born on October 4, 1939 in Lafayette, Louisiana and passed away on July 10th, 2013. Mabel was an American singer and guitar player with roots in Southern Louisianas country and western and Cajun music scene. She was one of the first solo female recording artists in Louisiana, and as a result, she received a key to the City of Opelousas for her accomplishments. Her career is documented in Wikipedia.
Not only was she a gifted musician, she was also a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, and touched many lives along her lifes journey. She was a loving mother to her children Dean Savoie, Tammy Savoie, Miriam Pratt and husband Allyn all of Houston Texas Earth Momma to Laurie Amann a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren Ryan Pratt and Krystal Pratt, her great granddaughter Kinsley Pratt and survived by many nieces and nephews. She will be truly missed by her extended family that cared for her immensely: the entire Pratt family, Jan Grimaldi, Erin Bush, Debbie Kelso, Brandy Davis, Pattie and Paul McNutt, Linda Hendrick, Stu and Jan Leaverton and her sisterinlaw and cruising buddy, Wilda Speyrer. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, sister, brother, and the love of her life, her husband, Sam L. Savoie.
She was a frequent patient at Kingwood Hospital and Regent Care and made many friends through her quick wit and sweet and caring ways. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Chava and Dr. Jayaraman and a host of other care givers for their excellent care and compassion throughout our moms illness. She is now singing with the Lord and will be missed by her family and friends beyond words.
Service will be held on Saturday, July 13th at LaFond Ardoin Funeral Home, 2845 S. Union St., Opelousas, LA 70570. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park.
