Mabel Savoie

Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Richard Savoie will be held on Monday, May 7th, 2007 at 11:00AM at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. The interment will be in the Church Cemetery. The Rev. Daniel Picard will conduct the services.

Mrs. Savoie, 95, died Friday, May 4, 2007 at Doctors Hospital of Opelousas. She was a member of St. Bridgets Catholic Church in Lawtell. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and St. Annes Society. She attended Nursing School at Charity Hospital in New Orleans La., and nursed at the Church Point Hospital in Church Point. She attended T.H. Harris Trade school and was employed as a bookkeeper at the Planters Bank for 15 years. She was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her sons; Charles Savoie and his wife Shirley of Berwick, La., and Bobby Savoie of Baton Rouge, a daughter; Alice Savoie Lazaro of Lafayette, brothers; Leroy Richard of Church Point and Homer Ray Richard of Opelousas and a sister Velma Moity of New Iberia. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren; David Savoie and his wife Sheila of Lafayette, Dawn Savoie Thomason and husband Mike of Berwick, Angela Savoie Pitre and her husband Danny of Houma, Dr. Stephen Lazaro and fianc Sue of New Orleans La., Karen Lazaro Jones and her husband Kenneth of Lafayette, Scott Savoie and his wife Tara of Opelousas, Troy Savoie and his wife Jackie of Belmont MA and Holly Georgeson and her husband David of Baton Rouge and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Ashton Savoie, her parents Homere and Alice Chachere Richard and her siblings; Laurent Richard, Wilda Richard and Louisiana Smith and Murphy Richard.

Pallbearers will be sons Charles and Bobby Savoie, Grandsons; Scott and David Savoie, Dr. Stephen Lazaro and Grandson-in-law Ken Jones.

Visitation will be observed on Sunday from 4:00PM to 9:00PM and will continue on Monday from 8:00AM until time of service. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday at 7:30PM.
