Mabel Carroll

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Wilfred Carroll, Sr., the former Mabel Bertrand, age 89, on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church followed by interment in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, La. Father Paul Bienvenu will conduct the services.

Mrs. Carroll who was a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2010 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas.

She enjoyed gardening and embroidery. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and greatgrandmother. She will be missed dearly by all who loved her.

She is survived by her sons, Norman J. Carroll and wife, Flo, of Sunset, LA Wilfred Carroll, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Stone Mountain, GA Elbon Booney Carroll and wife, Peggy, of Pensacola, FL her daughters, Freddie C. Fontenot and husband, Vincent, of Opelousas, LA Jeanne C. Arceneaux and husband, Bob, of Zachary, LA and Debra C. Pierrottie and husband, Douglas, of Carencro, LA a niece, that was just like a daughter, Pat Broussard, of St. Augustine, FL brothers, Sidney Bertrand of Abbeville, LA Dudley Bertrand of West Monroe, LA her sisters, Ruby Ortamond of Abbeville, LA and Melba Ortamond of Abbeville. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 21 greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Carroll, Sr. her parents, Dema and Elia Gisclair Bertrand her daughter, Madeline M. Carroll her grandson, Doug Arceneaux and six siblings.

Pallbearers will be: Bill Fontenot, David Russell, Michael Pierrottie, Francis Carroll, Kevin Arceneaux and Russell Arceneaux. Honorary pallbearers will be: Matt Carroll, Chris Fontenot, Chad Fontenot, Shawn Arceneaux, Wilfred Chip Carroll, III, Patrick Pierrottie, Aaron Pierrottie and Jacob Stelly.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2010 until time of service. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
