Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Sidney J. Sandoz, Jr., the former, Lydwin Walker Sandoz, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery. Reverend James Brady will be the Celebrant of the Mass.
Mrs. Sandoz, age 93, a longtime resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home.
Lydwin loved people and never met a stranger. She was always available to help others and everyone was Angel and Doll. Lydwin will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her sons, David Neil Sandoz of Opelousas, LA Douglas Timothy Sandoz and wife, Patricia Vidrine Sandoz, of Opelousas, LA and her daughters, Maureen Sandoz Bankston of Baton Rouge, LA and Melanie Sandoz Barousse and husband, Philip Roy Barousse, of Carencro, LA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, David Bankston, Jason Bankston, Sydney Bankston Pinchera, Adam Barousse, Julie Barousse Overby, Jake Barousse, Lisa Barousse Ducote, Leslie Sandoz Sumaylo, Natalie Sandoz and Abby Sandoz and 13 greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Sidney J. Sandoz, Jr. her son, Sidney Sandoz, III her parents, Samuel F. and Emma Walker and her brothers, Samuel Walker, L.A. Walker, Robert Walker and Wyatt Walker.
Visiting will begin at the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, November 7, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening by Deacon Sammy Diesi.
Pallbearers will be, David K. Bankston, Jr., Jason T. Bankston, Adam P. Barousse, Jake M. Barousse, Adam C. Pinchera, Trevor J. Ducote and Ray V. Overby.
The family would like to acknowledge the Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home nurses, caretakers and staff and the Heart of Hospice angels for the compassion and care they gave to Lydwin.
