Leonville A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Lydia Devillier Mayer, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013, in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville, LA. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Leo Church Cemetery. Reverend Ken Domingue will be the Celebrant of the Mass.
Mrs. Mayer, age 94, died on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at J. Michael Morrow Nursing Home in Arnaudville.
Lydia was a member of the Ladies Alter Society at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. She was employed by the St. Landry Parish School Board as a cafeteria worker for 25 years at Leonville High School. She also was the nutrition manager for the Council on Aging in Leonville. Lydia will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.
Survivors are her son, John Harrison Devillier and wife, Nancy, of Port Barre, LA her daughter, Mary Jane Devillier Richard and husband, Russell, of Port Barre, LA her stepson, Charles Mayer and wife, Beverly, of Pineville, LA her stepdaughter, Joycelyn Abene and husband, Ron, of New Orleans, LA her daughterinlaw, Mary Ellen Meche Devillier, of Cottonport, LA and her sister, Helen Lagrange, of Arnaudville, LA. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Pam Stanford and husband, Tommy Rusty Richard and wife, Elizabeth Alicia Theriot Jason Devillier and wife, Kay Christan Veillon and husband, Nick Spencer Devillier and wife, Michelle and 16 greatgrandchildren, Quinton, Erika, Ava, Maggie, Elijah, Maisie, Adam, Nick, Taylor, Alexis, Devin, Ethan, Haydn, Cowen, Jenna and Caitlyn.
She is preceded in death by her first husband of 40 years, Lonnie J. Devillier her second husband of 11 years, Edwin Mayer her parents, Amelca and Idolia Marks Arnaud her son, Joseph Howard Devillier her daughterinlaw, Shirley Melancon Devillier her sisters, Hazel Lanclos, Rita Methvien, Rena Savoie, Eunice Lagrange and her greatgrandchild, Alexis Helena Stanford.
Visiting hours will begin on Thursday, September 26, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will resume on Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
