Louise Ledoux

February 17, 1918 — March 29, 2014

A Mass of Christian Burial for Louise Harvey Ledoux will be held on Wednesday April 2, 2014 at 2:00pm at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, followed by the interment at Bellevue Memorial Park. The Reverend Paul Bienvenu will celebrate the Mass.

Mrs. Ledoux, age 96, a resident of Opelousas, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 29, 2014 at her residence at 12:20am surrounded by her beloved family, following an amazing battle with her illness. She was better known as Miss Louise, Mumpy or Aunt Weezie. Mrs. Ledoux was born in Neita, La. on February 17, 1918 and grew up in Bayou Current. She moved to Opelousas prior to her marriage to the late Emmett Ledoux. Louise and Emmett were proud parents of two daughters, Glenda Ledoux Shaw and the late Barbara Ledoux Reed. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Altar Society, West End Rosary Group, past member of La. Cowbelle Assn. and taught catechism for 12 years. She was loved and adored by all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her caring and compassion for others and for her love of cooking and baking. Her home was renowned as a happy gathering place where a good time, a great cup of coffee, and a fantastic meal could always be had. She was happiest when she was caring for and feeding a house full of family and friends. Nothing made her happier than serving others. She doted on her beloved husband, Emmett Ledoux, whose passing on the day after their 74th wedding anniversary broke her heart. She was known for her wit, charm, and impeccable style, and for her devotion to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas where she served as a choir member for several years. She will be sadly missed and forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her daughter, Glenda L. Shaw of Lafayette, brother, George Ray Harvey of Fort Worth, TX, her grandchildren, Paulette Taylor of St. Martinville, Lia Duplechain of Opelousas, Erin Monica of Lafayette, 11 great grandchildren, and several greatgreat grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband Emmett Ledoux parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.R. Harvey daughter, Barbara L. Reed brothers, James Harvey, Willie Harvey, and Harry Harvey sisters, Florence H. Ledoux, Ruth H. Ventre, Dorothy Harvey and Eva H. Goudeau a granddaughter, Pippa Onnebane and her soninlaw, Judge John M. Shaw.

The family would like to give special thanks to Shirley Fritz for her love and care of Mumpy as her own for nearly twenty years. The family also gives special thanks to Regina Harnsberry for caring for Weezie like a queen and for being her biggest fan. The family also thanks Mary Chavis, Helen Williams and Sarah Williams for their love, devotion, kindness, and gentle care.
