OPELOUSAS - A Mass of Christian Burial for Louis Fontenot Fay, Sr. will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Monsignor Louis Melancon and Monsignor Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum. Gift Bearers will be Michon Fay, Rena Fay and Quinten van der Maarel. Readers will be Stephanie Roy and Brother Joel McGraw, F.S.C.
Mr. Louis, age 67, who was a resident of Opelousas, LA, passed away on March 19, 2017 in Houston, TX.
Mr. Louis was a 4th Degree Knight with Knights of Columbus Council 1173. He was also a member of Opelousas Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1048. Louis was an avid hunter and fisherman, who loved teaching his grandchildren how to enjoy the outdoors. He was a Bouree player and enjoyed playing cards at the Elks Lodge. Louis often traveled to his grandchildren's sporting events and enjoyed it thoroughly. He coached and taught his children in sports and outdoor activities that will be passed on for generations. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Deborah Roy Fay; sons, Kip Fay and wife Michon of Opelousas, Chris Fay and wife Rena of Memphis, Tennessee and Andy Fay of Opelousas; daughter, Leslie van der Maarel and husband Quinten of Tomball, Texas; sister, Cindy Riehl and husband Robert of New Orleans; sister-in-law, Marie Fay; and grandchildren, Trey Hammond, Peyton Hammond, Emery Hammond, Connor Fay, Cecilia Fay, Madelynn Fay, Audrey Fay, Dominic Fay, Thomas Fay, Josephine Fay, Andrew Fay, II, Brody van der Maarel, Bryce van der Maarel and Brooks van der Maarel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Thomas Fay, Sr; and brother, Thomas "Buddy" M. Fay, II.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Thursday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
The Elks service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. A Rosary will be recited by Deacon Joubert on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Emonet, Rusty Bellard, Jimmy Genovese, Donald Cropper, Steve Bienvenue, Gardner Richard, Melvin Adams and Tommy Fay.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Mr. Louis' grandsons.
