Funeral services will be held for Lou Ray Goudeaux Johnise at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Parlor in Opelousas with visitation being held in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Parlor from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. There will be a rosary prayed at 11:00 a.m. by Miss Antoinette Rene' and a second rosary being prayed at 1:00 p.m. by Reverend Austin Leger. Burial will be held at St. Ann Church Cemetery in Mallet, LA. Reverend Daniel Picard will conduct the funeral service.
Mrs. Johnise, age 101, a resident of Swords, LA, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017.
Lou enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She loved being around animals and working in her garden. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Baker of Swords, LA; her granddaughter, Melissa "Missy" Baker Benoit and husband, Steve of Swords, LA; her great-granddaughters, Lauren Benoit Bourgeois and husband, Michael of Lawtell, LA; Ashley Benoit Olivier and husband, Lucas of Richard, LA and her great-grandchildren, Hewson Bourgeois, Amelia Bourgeois, Liam Olivier, Lucy Olivier and Andrew Olivier.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Leonce Johnise; her parents, William and Eunice Reed Goudeaux; her sister, Norma Goudeaux Richard; her son-in-law, James "Lee" Baker; her brother-in-law, Erman L. Richard and her nephew, C. Keith Richard.
Pallbearers will be Don Richard, Chad Richard, Steve Benoit, Lucas Olivier, Michael Bourgeois, Duane Smith and honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren, Hewson and Amelia Bourgeois and Lucy, Liam and Andrew Olivier.
The family would like to send a special thanks to her caregivers, Mrs. Helen Rougeau, Mrs. Judy Broussard, Mrs. Brenda Papillion, Med Source, Eunice Community Home Health, Dr. Hunt DeBlanc and her family, friends and neighbors who visited regularly.
