Lornise Fontenot

Palmetto A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Lornise Schexsnayder Fontenot at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2014, at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Palmetto, LA. Reverend Austin Leger will celebrate the Mass. Rite of committal will be held at the church cemetery. Brenda Soileau will read during the Mass.

Mrs. Fontenot went home to the Lord on her 89th birthday, Friday, October 31, 2014, at TriCommunity Nursing Home in Palmetto.

Lornise was a parishioner of St. Thomas Catholic Church of Palmetto where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She loved playing pokeno. She and her daughter, Norma, volunteered their time at TriCommunity Nursing Home working the bingo games. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and especially baking for family and friends. She adored her faithful companion, her dog, Sandy. She loved spending time with her grandchild and greatgrandchildren who meant the world to her. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Norma Fontenot Marks and husband, J.W., of Palmetto, LA and her grandchild, Tim Marks and wife, Ramona, of Port Barre, LA and three greatgrandchildren, Chris Marks and wife, Hannah, of Port Barre, LA Kimberly Devillier and husband, Rob, of Port Barre, LA, Corey Marks of Port Barre, LA, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Fontenot her parents, Eusebe and Arelin Soileau Schexsnayder her brothers, Eusebe Schexsnayder, Jr., Aureline Schexsnayder, John Schexsnayder and her sister, Oline Vige and two infant sisters.

Visitation will be held at the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, November 2, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Monday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. by Reverend Austin Leger.

Pallbearers will be Tim Marks, Chris Marks, Corey Marks, Rob Devillier, Mike Volker and Jerry Soileau.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of TriCommunity Nursing Home, Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, her sitters, Linda Betrand, Mary Circello and Annette Fitzgerald.
