A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Lillie Mae Briggs, on Monday, November 4, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., in the St. Landry Catholic Church, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park cemetery. The Reverend James Brady will celebrate the Mass.
Musical selections will be performed by Christopher Briggs and Sherry Landry.
Mrs. Briggs, age 94, who was a native of Port Barre and a lifelong resident of Opelousas, died at her residence on Friday, November 1, 2013.
Lillie was a very spiritual person who was active in the Charismatic Movement, Peoples Program, Life Champions and the Art League. Her many talents and passions included painting, baking, fishing, and most of all, the love that she had for her family. She worked as a beautician in her earlier years.
Survivors include her sons, Curtis Briggs, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Houma, LA, and Kevin Briggs of Opelousas, LA daughters, Vera Smart and husband Rick of Friendswood, TX, Gwen DAntoni and husband Patrick of Reno, Nev., Judy Perrault of Lafayette, LA and Karen Boudreaux and husband Leon of Opelousas, LA brother, Peter Lloyd Cormier and wife Alice of Opelousas, LA 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Briggs, Sr. parents, Florand and Edmea Melancon Cormier brothers, Florand Cormier, Jr. and Floyd Cormier sister, Etheline Cormier son in laws, Norman Soileau and Mason Perrault.
Mrs. Briggs pallbearers will be Philip DAntoni, Garret DAntoni, Jason Soileau, Mikey Boudreaux, Ricky Smart, and Mitchell Briggs. Honorary pallbearer will be Peter Lloyd Cormier.
Visiting will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2013, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas with a Rosary by Deacon John Miller at 6:00 p.m.
The family would like to wish a special thank you to Mrs. Briggs daughter, Karen Boudreaux for the years of love and care given to their mother. We also thank all of her wonderful caregivers for the care and kindness shown to her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorial Masses or donations be made to St. Landry or Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Churches.
