Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Levey N. Cummings, age 88, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Monsignor Paul Metrejean will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Cummings, a resident of Duson, LA, died on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA.

Levey served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. He was a master carpenter and master gardener. He loved playing pool and was excellent at barbequing. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Bergeron Cummings, of Duson, LA; his sons, Dexter Cummings of Pensacola, FL; Derwin Cummings of Pace, FL; Todd Cummings of Duson, LA; his daughter, Kimberly Gibbs and husband, Gregory, of Robertsdale, AL and his sister, Rita Guillaumin of Opelousas, LA. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldridge and Helen Lavergne Cummings; his brothers, Marion Cummings, Yoel Cummings, J.P. Cummings, Gene Cummings and his sisters, Lee Cummings Dabney and Shirley Cummings Speyrer.

Pallbearers will be Gregory Gibbs, Brandon Gibbs, Kyle Gibbs, Ean Baird, Dalton Cummings, Dylan Cummings and honorary pallbearers will be Dexter Cummings, Derwin Cummings and Todd Cummings.

Visitation will be held at the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, February 8, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday until time of services.
