Leroy Sylvester

Prairie Ronde A Mass of Christian Burial for Leroy Sylvester will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, La. followed by interment in the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Prairie Ronde, La. The Reverend Paul Bienvenu will conduct the Mass.

Readings will be done by Suzanne Lognion Yates, gift bearers will be Monica Sebastien and Barbara Harrington and the lay minister will be Barbara Harrington.

Mr. Sylvester, age 83, a resident of Plaisance, La., died on Monday, November 14, 2011, at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas.

Leroy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Elks Lodge 1048, a member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion in Washington. He also drove a school bus for the St. Landry Parish School Board and was a cattle and crop farmer. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his daughter, Judy Sylvester Sebastien and husband, Keith, of Opelousas, La. three grandchildren, Heather Sebastien of Greenville, North Carolina Seth Sebastien and wife, Monica, of Opelousas, La. and Brian Sebastien of Opelousas, La. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Dell Fontenot Sylvester his parents, Armas and Zita Guillory Sylvester his twin sister, Lou Ella Lognion and his half brothers, Sidney and Hillred Hicks Sylvester.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Seth Sebastien, Brian Sebastien, Anthony Lognion and Charles Lognion.
