Leola Vasseur

Prairie Ronde - Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2017 for Ms. Leola "Youl" "Tee-Ya" Ortego Vasseur at Prairie Ronde Baptist Church. Reverend David Fultz will officiate the services. Burial will follow at Prairie Ronde Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Vasseur, age 72 and a resident of Prairie Ronde, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Opelousas General Health Systems.

Ms. Leola was a devout member of Prairie Ronde Baptist Church for 40 years. She worked as a Custodian, Nursery Coordinator and Nursery Worker. "Youl" also served on the Hospitality Committee and she was a Sunday School Teacher all for 30 years. She loved going to church and she also loved visiting, praying and sending get well and sympathy cards to those she knew were sick. "Tee-Ya" enjoyed baking homemade pies, cakes and pralines for her friends and family. She loved listening to and watching Southern Gospel music groups. Ms. Leola was often a counselor to those who were going through difficult times. She walked by faith and not by sight. "Youl" will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughters, Theresa Faye Vasseur of Prairie Ronde and Genevieve Vasseur of Prairie Ronde; son, Curtis Gene Vasseur, Jr. of Prairie Ronde; grandchildren, Kenneth Daigle and his wife, Tamatha, Toby Daigle and his wife, Tricia, Dustin Savoy and his fiancé, Brittany and Nicholas Bihm; great-grandchildren, Amber, Caleb, Briley, Ashton, Kaitlyn, Olivia, Alexis, Baylee, Maddox, Liam and Karsen; and sisters, Ruby Brown of Port Barre, Joycie Vasseur of Opelousas and Ivy Dale Roberie and her husband, Sherron of Grand Prairie.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Curtis "Brother" Gene Vasseur, Sr.; parents, Kirby and Vernice Castille Ortego; and sisters, Versey Vasseur, Bernadine Richard, Virginia Ortego and Norma Jean Ortego Vasseur.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home. It will resume on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Daigle, Toby Daigle, Dustin Savoy, Nicholas Bihm, June Vasseur and Dennis Vasseur.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Caleb Daigle and Maddox Savoy.
