Leo Charles Coonie Lalonde


Funeral services for Leo Charles Coonie Lalonde will be held on Tuesday January 12, 2010 at 2:00pm in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. The interment will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington. Fr. Albert Nunez will conduct the services.

Mr. Lalonde, age 70 a resident of Washington died Friday January 8, 2010 at Opelousas General Health Systems. He had worked as a railroad mechanic.

Coonie enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed making Afghans and fishing nets for family and friends and also going to the Casino and playing Bouree at his home on Saturday nights. He leaves behind wonderful memories and lessons taught to his 2 grandsons whom he loved dearly. He will be sadly missed by all he knew and loved.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Theresa Tessie Lalonde of Washington, son Byron J. Lalonde and his wife Mary Sanchez Lalonde of Opelousas, daughters Darlene Lalonde of Washington and Vivian Vicki Thibodeaux and her husband Robert also of Washington, sisters Norma Stelly of Leonville and Helen Winget of North Carolina, and 2 grandsons John Robert Thibodeaux, II and Michael Joseph Lalonde.

Preceded in death by his parents Leonce and Louise Lalonde, brothers Leonce Whitey Lalonde, Jr., Raymond Lalonde and Ronald Felo Lalonde and sisters Josephine Richard and Clara Belle Bourgeois.

Visitation will be on Monday January 11, 2010 from 10:00am until 10:00pm and on Tuesday from 9:00am until time of services. A rosary will be recited on Monday at 7:00pm.
