Opelousas, LA – Lena Mae Fontenot Dupre, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Opelousas General Health System. She was born on September 26, 1932, in Opelousas, LA. Lena was a kind-hearted woman who touched the lives of many with her warm smile and gentle nature.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on July 19, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. A Rosary service will be prayed at 12:30 PM. A Funeral Service will follow in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 1:00 PM. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will conduct the service. The burial will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park.
Lena dedicated many years of her life working for The Daily World Newspaper doing layout in the advertisements department. She also worked as a secretary at Opelousas High School for a few years. She took great pride in her career and was respected by her colleagues and superiors alike. She previously attended Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church and belonged to their rosary group.
She also had a passion for the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed playing bingo and praying her rosary at the nursing home. Lena also loved doing word search books, coloring in her color books, and watching the Game Show Network.
Lena will be deeply missed by her son Paul “Mickey” Dupre and his wife, Cathy, of Opelousas, LA; and her son-in-law, Charles “Charlie” Hicks and his life partner, Freida Simon, of Lafayette, LA. She will also be missed by her four grandchildren, Reggie Pitre, Charisse Guidry and her former husband, Johnny Guidry, Justin Dupre and companion, Caitlan Borel and Kaitlin Franchebois and husband, Troy; eight great-grandchildren, Julia Prudhomme, Jonathan Guidry, Jacob Guidry, Lorryn Kizer, Jack Dupre, Maverick Dupre, Camryn Franchebois and Gracelyn Franchebois; and one great-great grandchild, Jessie Prudhomme.
Lena is preceded in death by husband, Joseph Yves “J.Y.” Dupre; her parents, Leaus Fontenot and Beulah Henry Fontenot; and her daughter, Glenda Hicks.
Those honored to be Lena’s pallbearers are Justin Dupre, Jack Dupre, Troy Franchebois, Johnny Guidry, Jacob Guidry, and Jimmy Castania. Honorary pallbearers will be Mickey Dupre and Charlie Hicks.
Lena Mae Fontenot Dupre was a remarkable woman who lived life with kindness and joy. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.
