Larry Young

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. Larry Young at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas.  Father Gregory Simien will officiate the Mass.

Our dad, (Pop), age 70, lost his battle with COVID-19 at sunset on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 5:46 p.m. at Opelousas General Health System surrounded by his family.

Dad retired from Schlumberger after 25 years of service and then decided that he wanted work a little more.  He worked at Targil since his retirement and until his time of death.  He loved his Targil and Schlumberger families like his own.

Dad enjoyed anything outdoors, hunting, fishing, rodeos and anything that involved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He went all over the world with Stuart and Nick for baseball, with Kelli for rodeos and Brett for dancing.  The great-grandchildren were just as spoiled.  He started with picking them up at school in the afternoon, taking them for ice cream or just keeping gum in his truck to make sure and put a smile on their faces.

Dad was a member of Hogan Hunting Club for many years and the camp was his way of unwinding and having some fun with his many hunting buddies.   Thank you for all loving our daddy.

Larry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda Johnson; his daughters, Kelli Young (Billy Touchet) and Brett Leger (Travis Leger); his two brothers, Tim Young and Todd Miller; his mother-law, Catherine Courvelle; his grandsons, Stuart Young (Monica Young), Nick Latiolais and Beau Leblanc (Taylor Lecamus); granddaughters, Sarah and Bailey Ray; great-grandchildren, Amberly Young, Waylen Smith, Josey Latiolais, Zyli Leblanc, Zedd Leblanc and bonus great-grandchildren, Milah Jade Crawford, Keeghan Abshire, Boston Abshire, Grayson St. Cyr and baby on the way.  He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, two special children that were his grandchildren, Nigel Crawford and Meghan St.Cyr (Alex St. Cyr).

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Young; his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Vernon Miller; many grandparents, great-grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 6:30 PM by Deacon Ulysse Joubert.  Visitation will continue on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.

We would like to thank the OGH staff, ER, 5th Floor, ICU, The Family Clinic, Dr. Raza and all the other doctors and staff who worked tremendously to save our daddy.  You will never be forgotten.  God had different plans, but we still thank him for our dad's time here.  Thank you all for the calls, messages and prayers.  Our family will forever be grateful.

Pallbearers will be Nick Latiolais, Stuart Young, Beau Leblanc, Nigel Crawford, Billy Touchet, and Travis Leger.  Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Lejeune, Tremaine Johnson, and Danny Bergeron.

Finally, dress comfortably, dad hated to dress up.  Come as you are your favorite jeans, crocks or boots.  That would make him happy.
