Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Larry Joseph Hargroder at 1:30 PM on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at St. Landry Catholic Church. Monsignor Russell Harrington will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Thursday in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas with a rosary being prayed at 12:45 PM by Deacon Dwayne Joubert.
Mr. Hargroder, age 79, a resident of Opelousas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home.
Larry received his Bachelor's Degree and Master's in Education. He was a member of the Retired Teacher's Organization during his career as a teacher at Opelousas High School. He taught math and was an assistant principal. He was a supervisor of student teaching and adult education. Mr. Hargroder served as an instructor supervisor and computer analyst at the St. Landry Parish School Board. After retiring, Larry taught at SLCC in Lafayette. On April 4, 1990, Larry was awarded and recognized for his eleven years of dedicated and valuable service rendered to Title 1, Chapter 1 Children. He loved being outdoors fishing, traveling, gardening and enjoyed football, playing cards, dominos and bingo. Larry will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma Sebastien Hargroder; his sons, Mitchell Hargroder and wife, Patsy; Todd Hargroder and wife, Leah; Marty Hargroder and wife, Dawn; his daughter, Lesley Ann Biba and husband, Robert and his sister, Lillian Credeur and husband, Ballard. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Tasha Guidry and husband, Micah, Brooke Hargroder, Lacey Hargroder, Thomas Hargroder, Olivia Loupes, Abby Hargroder, John Hargroder, Michael Hargroder, Emily Hargroder, Trevor Biba and Vincent Biba and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Abbotte Hargroder and Lillian O'Pry Hargroder; his sisters, Shirley Baker and Wanda Goutreaux; his brother, Leo Hargroder; his brothers-in-law, Joe Baker and Loyde Goutreaux and his sister-in-law, Margrette Hargroder.
