Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 for Lanny Trahan at Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church in Opelousas. Rev. Regina Hickman will officiate the services. Burial and rendering of military honors will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.
Lanny Trahan, age 98 and a resident of Grand Prairie, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 25, 2020.
Lanny proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, where he served in the North Africa and European Campaigns with George Patton's 3rd Army. He also served in the European African Middle Eastern Campaigns. Lanny had a lifetime career farming sweet potatoes, cotton and soybeans. After retiring he was an avid gardener growing tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, peppers and many other vegetables. Lanny owned and raced thoroughbred horses. He loved working in the soil and loved raising animals of all kinds. Lanny enjoyed listening to old Cajun French music on KBON radio. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sons, Byron Arceneaux (Annette) and Denny Trahan (Tammy); daughters, Glenda Trahan Wallett, Ellen Trahan Broussard (Frank) and Tammie Trahan Griffith (Rick); grandchildren, Pam Arceneaux Fontenot, Shanna Arceneaux, Brandon Arceneaux, Emily Arceneaux Tackett, Scotty Rider, Joel Broussard, Eban Broussard, Mallory Broussard, Laney Welch, Caleb Trahan, Ross Campbell and Allison Campbell; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Fontenot, Ashley Fontenot, Madison Fontenot, Kaitlin Arceneaux, Kolbe Thomas, Bailey Marcantel, Mason Tackett, Riley Tackett, Olivia Rider, Gabriel Rider and Gracie Rider.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julia Spears Trahan; parents, Faranta and Emma Bernard Trahan; siblings, Edwin Trahan, Della Trahan Stelly, Athanas "Nue" Trahan and Delta Trahan Caswell; and grandson, Brett Michael Wallett.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Visiting will continue on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Scotty Rider, Brandon Arceneaux, Eban Broussard, Ross Campbell, Shanna Arceneaux, Laney Welch, Mallory Broussard and Allison Campbell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Pam Fontenot, Joel Broussard, Emily Tackett and Caleb Trahan.
The family wishes to thank his loving caregivers, Tammy, Cheryl, Phoebe, Rita, Paula, Michelle, Lafayette General Health Systems, The Carpenter House of Acadiana for their loving care during his time of need.
