Kernel Gaspard

A Mass of Christian Burial for Kernel Martin Gaspard, age 64, will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park cemetery. The Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass.

Mr. Gaspard, who was a native of Marksville and resident of Opelousas, died at 11:45 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011 in the Lafayette General Medical Center.

Kernel worked in home improvement sales. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting, but his true love was his family, which meant everything to him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Becky Wilson Gaspard of Opelousas sons, Kernell Gaspard, Jr. of Lafayette, Randy Gaspard and his wife Nikki of Madisonville, LA daughters, Denise Gaspard Godeaux and husband Todd of Opelousas, Tanya Gaspard Saucier and husband Neil of Opelousas an uncle, Webster Dauzat and wife Delora of Marksville sisters, Ina Crooks Laprairie and husband Leo of Deville, LA, Larca Jenkins and husband Tommy of Sunnyside, GA and Elsie Gaspard of Pineville, LA grandchildren, Daniel Godeaux, Derek Godeaux, Courtney Gaspard and Mackenzie Meyers and their mother, Amanda Meyers, Lance Guilbeau, Lillie Saucier, Chelsie Gaspard, Randi Gaspard, and Autumn Lindsey also numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Ola Dauzat Gaspard brothers, Elden Gaspard, Sr., Newty Gaspard, Harold Gaspard, Ivan Yank Gaspard, Jr. and Irby Lee Gaspard sisters, Ruth Honea, Ola McCann and Julia Dauzat.

Visitation will be held in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning Monday, May 23, 2011 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
