Kermit Christ

Opelousas – Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019 for Kermit Gay Christ at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. The Reverend Monsignor Russell Harrington will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.

Mr. Christ, age 84 and a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Opelousas General Health Systems.

Mr. Christ served his country honorably in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean War. Kermit enjoyed wood working, carpentry and working with his hands. He also liked doing crossword puzzles. Mr. Christ was a huge supporter of LSU and O.C. sports, especially softball. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Kermit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, JoAnn Ortego Christ; son, Kelly Christ and his wife, Jackie; daughters, Jill C. Artall and her husband, Jay and Kim C. Eleazar; grandchildren, Camille Eleazar Berry and her husband, Austin, Olivia Artall and Amelia Artall; sister-in-law, Melba C. Christ; granddog, Lucy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Christ and Mathilde Gay Christ; sister, Dorothy Fontenot; and brothers, Ashley Christ and Ted Christ.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening by Deacon Sammy Diesi. Visitation will continue on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at St. Landry Catholic Church from 8:30 a.m. until the Mass at 10:00 a.m.
