Opelousas - A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 for Alba "Kenny" Kenneth McKinney, Jr. in the Skip Montet Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dean Rydbeck, pastor of the Hope Presbyterian Church will officiate the services.
Kenny passed away at his home in Opelousas surrounded by his loving family on October 14, 2017.
He attended high school at Opelousas High School and graduated from Sewanee Military Academy. He furthered his education at USL (ULL) and received his bachelor's in photography. Kenny was at his happiest being at home with his family and friends. Kenny was a very kind and outgoing person. He loved fishing, hunting, taking pictures of sunsets and building bonfires. Kenny was also a league bowler for many years at Lafayette Lanes. Frank Artigue was a high school friend and co-worker of Kenny's and was with him at the very end. Kenny also enjoyed watching football and making bets with his dear friend, Mickey Mills.
Kenny is survived by his wife of 20 years, Anita Collins McKinney; his mother, Betty Castille McKinney; his daughter, Samantha Diane McKinney and husband, Jeremy Sanders of Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Mickey McKinney and Durkee McKinney and two sisters, Sally McKinney Reed and husband, Randy and Cindy McKinney Ortego and husband, Lonnie. A dear uncle and aunt Armand and Susan Castille, brothers-in-law, Scott, Bill and Jimmy Collins and host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Alba K. (Mac) McKinney, Sr.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Beverly Collins and grandparents, Armand and Sallie Castille and Alba and Birdie McKinney.
The family would like to thank Louisiana Home Health Care and Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care for caring for Kenny during his illness.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will reopen on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
