Opelousas - Funeral services for Kenneth Kenny Meche, age 51, will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas.
Rev. Paul Bienvenu will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mr. Meche, a native and resident of Opelousas, died at 7:45 a.m. on August 28, 2008 at his residence.
Mr. Meche graduated from Opelousas High School in 1970. He was the co-owner and operator of Meches Meat and Food Market. Growing up he was a CP Clinic child. He was also a member of the Opelousas Jaycees and received the Martin Luther King, Jr. award in 2007. He was appointed Commissioner of Human Rights by Governor Foster. He also chaired the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon for many years.
Mr. Meche is survived by his mother, Florence Flo Bourgeois Meche of Opelousas, La.; his sister, Sandra Meche Seguin of Opelousas, La.; four nieces and nephews, Jared Soileau of Lafayette, La.; Nicole Soileau of Silver Spring, Maryland; Olivia Soileau of Bethesda, Maryland and Zachary Peter Meche-Soileau of Lake City, Florida. He is also survived by his three great-nieces and nephews, Morgan, Madison and McKayla Soileau of Lake City, Florida and is also survived by his Aunt Bathilda and Uncle Gilbert Vigil of Lawtell, La.
Mr. Meche is preceded in death by his father Clarence Meche in 2002.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on Friday, August 29, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will re-open on Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2008.
