J.Y. Dupre

Opelousas Funeral services for J.Y. Dupre will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013, in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, LA. Deacon Jerome Collins will officiate the service.

Mr. Dupre, age 82, a resident of Opelousas, LA died on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at the St. Landry Extended Care Hospital.

J.Y. was a police officer for 20 years with the Opelousas Police Department and retired in 1978. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, a member of Woodmen of the World and a past officer of the Policemans Association. He also farmed cattle and enjoyed playing cards and visiting with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Fontenot Dupre, of Opelousas, LA his son, Paul Mickey Dupre and wife, Cathy, of Opelousas, LA his sister, Melba Charlie of Ville Platte, LA and his soninlaw, Charles Hicks. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Reggie Pitre, Charisse Guidry and husband, Johnny Justin Dupre and wife, Kellie Kaitlin Frenchebois and husband, Troy and 5 greatgrandchildren, Julia, Jonathan, Jacob, Lorry and Jack.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Octave and Myra Deville Dupre his daughter, Glenda Hicks his brothers, Ernest Dupre, Horace Dupre, Walter Dupre and his sisters, Mable Pomier, Jean Miller and Sable Vidrine.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will reopen on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
