Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Julian Junior Devillier, Jr., at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2013, in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Rite of Committal will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA. The Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will be the celebrant of the Mass.
Mr. Devillier, a resident of Opelousas, age 84, died at 10:10 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Opelousas, LA.
Julian worked for Stellys in Lebeau, the City of Opelousas and TL James. He was a heavy machine operator and was proud of the work that he had accomplished. He also had a part in building Interstate 49. Julian enjoyed being outdoors and after retiring, he started doing yard work for several people. He loved to talk and enjoyed the responsibility of taking care of his cat, Buffy. He will be greatly missed, but will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends and all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edell Decou Devillier, of Opelousas, LA his daughters, Betty Matherne of Morgan City Brenda Sturgis and husband, John, of Leonville Linda Miller and husband, Carl, of Sunset Janice Courville and husband, Louis, of Opelousas his brother, Raymond Devillier of Tomball, Texas his sister, Marie Effie Devillier of Opelousas his grandchildren, Dawn, Spinella and husband, David of Bayou LOurse Billie Jo Thibodaux and husband, Glen, of Church Point Kelly Hoffpauir and husband, Jeremy, of Maurice Mickie Berryhill of Scott Dustin Cortez and wife, Victoria, of St. George, Utah his greatgrandchildren, Tyler and Johnothan Spinella of Bayou LOurse James and Lance Thibodaux of Church Point, LA David Rogillio, Riley, Reed and Noah Hoffpauir all of Maurice.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Julian, Sr. and Martha Charlie Devillier his brothers, John Straight Devillier, Joseph CopCop Devillier, Leroy Devillier, Sherman Devillier, Wilfred Devillier, Rufford Devillier his sisters, Elizabeth BaBet Devillier Andrus, Hazel Devillier Ortego, Annie Annie Wise Devillier Ortego two greatgrandchildren, Cody and Brody Thibodaux.
Pallbearers will be Louis Courville, John Sturgis, Carl Miller, David Spinella, Glen Thibodaux, and Jeremy Hoffpauir. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler and Johnothan Spinella, James and Lance Thibodaux, David Rogillio and Reed and Noah Hoffpauir.
The following musical selections will be performed by Patricia Hoffpauir and Richard Sellers: Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, Wind Beneath My Wings and the Old Rugged Cross.
Visiting hours will begin on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. and will resume on Thursday morning from 8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
