Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joyce Marie Smithson Fisette at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas.  Reverend Gregory Simien will celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, La.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.  A Rosary will be prayed on 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home by Deacon Bill Pollingue.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joyce Marie Smithson Fisette, age 78, on Monday, March 29, 2021, at Opelousas General Health System.

Joyce loved sewing, doing crafts, cooking, and watching old western movies.  She loved taking care of her plants and caring for her pets.  Joyce will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her companion 30 years, Craig Bellfy, of Carencro, La.; her daughter, Jerilyn Hidalgo Richard of Opelousas, La.; her former son-in-law, Patrick D. Richard of Opelousas, La. and her granddaughter, Macy Elizabeth Richard.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, John "Big John" Edward Hidalgo; her son, Joseph Douglas (Doug) Hidalgo; her infant daughter, Jeannine Hidalgo; her infant grandson, Zachary John Richard and her mother, Verna Fontenot Smithson.
