Joyce Prejean

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 for Joyce Lafleur Prejean at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.

Joyce Lafleur Prejean, 84 passed away at 9:03 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at the home of her daughter in Opelousas.

Joyce was born on December 6, 1933, in Prairie Ronde, Louisiana, to Colver Lafleur and Mildred Miller Lafleur. After graduating from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, she returned to Opelousas where she was Operating Room Director at St. Landry Clinic, Nursing Services Administrator at Doctors Hospital of Opelousas, and eventually opened and was Director of Opelousas General Hospital Home Health Agency until the time of her retirement. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court 119.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, John Calvin Prejean.

She is survived by her brother, Eugene "Sonny" Lafleur; daughter, Lainey Prejean; daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Ray Benoit; daughter and son-in-law, Mona "Teeda" and Rusty Reed. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy (Richard) Gaiennie, Wendy (Tony) Cuevas, Brittany Reed, Hunter (Hollie) Smith, Nicholas Thibodeaux, Katie (Brandon) Jeffers, Allison (Russell) Babineaux, Celeste Reed, Eric Reed, Benjamin Reed, Michelle Benoit, Todd (Monica) Benoit, Shawn Benoit, Angie (Paul) Fenn and Alisha (Matt) Babineaux. She is survived also by many beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home. It will continue at 7:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Jerome Collins.

Pallbearers will be Richard Gaiennie, Hunter Smith, Calvin Gaiennie, Ray Benoit, Nicholas Thibodeaux, and Benjamin Reed. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rusty Reed, Eric Reed, and Edward Gaiennie.
