A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joyce Dupre Marks, age 97, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2011, in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, followed by interment in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington. The Reverend James Nguyen will celebrate the Mass.
Mrs. Marks was a native of Grand Prairie and a resident of Palmetto. She died peacefully on Saturday, December 03, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family. She gave of herself unselfishly to care for others and she was a wonderful cook. Joyce was a longtime parishioner of St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include two sons, Bernard Marks and his wife Jane of Opelousas and J.W. Marks and wife Norma of Palmetto daughter, Brenda M. Soileau and husband Jerry of Palmetto a sister Alice D. Meche of Bunkie eight grandchildren, Kenny Marks, Bonnie Soileau, Gwen Ziegler, Karen Demourelle, Tim Marks, Kelly Dunn, Chad Soileau, and Adrienne S. Huguet thirteen great grandchildren, Layla Soileau, Lauri Marks, Anne Viator, Adam Marks, Abrie Soileau, Chris Marks, Kimberly Marks, David Ziegler, Corey Marks, Gabriella Demourelle, Anna Demourelle, Gunner Soileau, and Taylor Dunn and three greatgreat grandchildren, Hailey Rae Viator, Andrew Marks, and Heidi Viator.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Edgar Marks parents, Gussie and Lola Fontenot Dupre, Sr. brothers, L.T., Lamart, Harris, Gussie, Jr., and Dallas sisters, Bathilde, Della, Mary, and Anna Mae.
The family would like to thank Marie Duruisseau, Bonnie Berry, Belinda Fontenot, Monique McLendon and Dr. Richard Tate for all of their love, care, and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. Thomas Catholic Church Building Fund in Palmetto, LA.
Visiting hours will be observed beginning on Sunday, December 4, 2011 in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home from 5:00 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday. A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
