Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce Doucet Castille, age 79, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on, Saturday, May 7, 2011, in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, La., followed by interment in the St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell, La. The Reverend Paul Bienvenu will be the celebrant of the Mass.
Joyce was born in Lawtell and was a lifelong resident of Prairie Ronde and then Opelousas. She passed away at Opelousas General Health System surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, May 5, 2011.
Joyce retired after 20 years of employment from Grolee Elementary as the food service manager.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy Castille Meche David of Leonville two sons, Terrel Castille Diana and Randy Castille Karen of Lawtell one daughterinlaw, Barbara Lejeune Castille seven grandchildren, Jody Castille, Jamie Castille, Jason Meche, Kelly Meche Solet, Kilie Castille Armand, Kara Castille, Kristie Castille nine greatgrandchildren, Joshua Castille, Jacob Castille, Justin Castille, Noel Castille, Samantha Castille, Andre Meche, Sawyer Solet, Isabel Armand and Marisa Armand. She is also survived by two sisters, Ora Mae Doucet Miller Francis of Prairie Ronde and Audrey Doucet Fontenot Harold of Eunice one sisterinlaw, Eva Castille of New Iberia and one brotherinlaw, Gervais Lyons of Church Point.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Louis one son, Jimmy one brother, J.C. Doucet one sister and brotherinlaw, Betty and George Miller her parents, Linest Doucet and Esther Richard Doucet and numerous brotherinlaws and sisterinlaws in the Castille family.
Pallbearers will be: Terrel Castille, Randy Castille, Jody Castille, Jason Meche, Ricky Miller and Jeff Savoie. Honorary pallbearers will be: Gary Sonnier and Jamie Castille.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Friday, May 6, 2011, from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2011, evening in the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Father Keith DeRouen and Father Dan Picard for their spiritual ministries. The family also thanks the Senior Village nursing staff in Louisiana Ave. hall, Opelousas General Health System, ER staff and the 5th floor North Wing nursing staff, Dr. Laura Braham, Dr. Michael Montgomery and Dr. LaTonya Kelly and staff. Our heartfelt thanks are extended to all who were praying for Joyce and her family during her long years of illness.
